WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY?

"Physiotherapy is the primary health care profession that promotes wellness, mobility, and independent function. Physiotherapists have advanced understanding of how the body moves, what keeps it from moving well, and how to restore mobility."

DOES INSURANCE COVER IT?

If you have extended health benefits or have been injured as a result of an automobile accident, then you will likely have a portion or all of your treatment paid for. If you are using extended health benefits, check the details of your coverage in your Extended Health Manual, or speak with your Human Resources department for the details of your coverage.

OHIP coverage for physiotherapy services (government-funded physiotherapy) is only available at OHIP licensed facilities for Ontario residents under the age of 18 or over 65. Hospitals with an outpatient physiotherapy department may also see patients, but prospective patients will likely experience prolonged wait times.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY DOCTOR?

No, a referral is not necessary to attend physiotherapy treatment. However, patients are advised to check the details of their extended health benefits as some plans may require a physician's referral in order to get treatment costs reimbursed.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT SESSION TAKE AND HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS DO I NEED?

New physiotherapy patients assessments are approximate 40 minutes to 1-hour in length and follow up treatments are 20 minutes or longer depending on the type of treatment being performed. All appointment times are one-on-one with your physiotherapist.

The number of sessions you'll need depends on your condition. The initial visit gives your therapist the information they need to develop your rehabilitation plan. Your therapist will discuss your recovery time with you after your initial assessment.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY APPOINTMENTS?

At your initial visit, your physiotherapist will conduct an interview and a physical evaluation. This will be followed by your first treatment so you can immediately benefit from your experience at our facility.

Treatment itself can vary depending on the type of injury that you are presenting with. This may involve education on your injury and how to optimize recovery, manual therapy (hands on treatment), physical modalities (e.g. ultrasound treatment, electrical muscle stimulation), and an exercise program.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?

We ask our patients to wear clothing appropriate to the type and area of injury. Shorts and a t-shirt or tank top is usually sufficient.

Please bring any test reports or other medical documentation you feel may be helpful in your treatment planning to your appointments.

If your condition is related to an auto accident, we require your insurance company information, claim number, and extended health benefits information.

WILL PHYSIOTHERAPY BE ABLE TO TREAT MY PROBLEM?

We can usually make a difference in your condition in just a few treatments. You should be able to see a noticeable difference right away. If we are unable to improve your condition or feel that physiotherapy is not an appropriate treatment for your condition, we will refer you to a more appropriate healthcare provider.

DO I HAVE TO BE A STUDENT TO ATTEND THE CLINIC?

NO, the clinic is open to the general population and most of our clients are referred by friends or family because they were very pleased with their treatment.

I HAVE BEEN REFERRED TO ANOTHER PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINIC BY MY DOCTOR. CAN I COME TO YOUR CLINIC INSTEAD?

Yes. It does not matter where you go for your physiotherapy treatments. You can bring your referral to us even if it has another clinics name on it.
