Services

Your appointment time is a private, one-on-one session with a registered physiotherapist. We do not use assistants or aides in our treatments!

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health care profession providing services to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout a person’s lifespan. It includes the provision of services where movement and function are threatened by injury, disease or the process of aging.

Our physiotherapists have a detailed understanding of how the body works, and the impact environmental and lifestyle factors can have on your physical condition. A physiotherapist will work with you and your healthcare team to provide a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs, and one that focuses on achieving your highest level of physical well-being.

Also known as physical therapists, physiotherapists have a post graduate university degree and are specialists in assessing and improving movement and function, while relieving pain. They promote good health by working with patients to maximize their abilities while adopting a healthy lifestyle.

A physiotherapist helps individuals return to their pre-injury activities. The physiotherapist accomplishes this through successfully restoring and increasing range of motion in joints; by treating spinal problems and the treatment of various other orthopaedic and neurological conditions.

Physiotherapy Treatments Include: injury specific exercise programs; manipulation and mobilization (manual therapy); electrotherapy (e.g. therapeutic ultrasound); acupuncture; hydrotherapy - exercise in water and soft tissue techniques.

Pre-surgery

Booked for surgery?

This is an excellent time to come see us. We can give you exercises to perform to make you stronger prior to surgery. We can also tell you what to expect right after surgery and what to do to make your recovery as quick as possible.

Post Surgery

If you have just had surgery or a cast removed, we can teach you how to move again. If it is learning to walk with crutches or progressing to normal walking without crutches, we know how to do that. Total hip and knee replacements need to get moving right away so make sure you book appointments prior to surgery.

Sports Injuries

The Lakehead Sports Medicine Clinic is Thunder Bay’s most popular spot for rehabilitation for sports injuries. From ankle sprains to concussions and everything in between, we treat it. We have 4 physiotherapists with experience in most sports. Running, cycling, rugby, football, baseball, crossfit, soccer, skiing, ultimate Frisbee or anything else.

Rotator Cuff Problems

Pain in the shoulder can be very limiting. We will assess your shoulder to determine if your injury is one that will respond positively to physio or something that needs further investigation or consultation. Don’t wait to look after that shoulder as the pain can progress to a rotator cuff tear if not looked after quickly.

Knee Pain

Knee pain is one of the most common reasons people come to see us. We will assess the whole lower extremity (low back/hip/knee/ankle/foot) to determine the root of the problem.

Muscle Pain

Muscle strains will definitely slow you down. Pain from a pulled hamstring or torn bicep are things that we can help you with. Of course there are many more muscles in the body and we know them all. Tennis elbow, golfers elbow need to have the muscled loosened. We will work on stretching, massage, cupping or whatever technique necessary to fix the problem.

Low Back and Neck Pain

Anyone older than about 20 years old already has some degeneration or wear and tear in the spine. As we age, the space between the vertebrae gets smaller and pressure on the nerves can cause neck or back pain that may or may not travel down the arm or leg. As physiotherapists, we have a variety of treatment techniques to open up these spaces and relieve the pain.

And Many More

There are many more injuries and conditions that we treat. Call our receptionist at 807-343-8188 if you have any questions.
